Does the display on a 2002 honda rancher atv have to be working for the bike to

shift right? It shifts fine then it stops, I turn the key off then on it starts working. I replaced the angle sensor in the front. does the display show codes if somethings not working. I had to unplug mine it was cracked and full of water.
