Does t.v software for the pc really work? Is it a good way to watch sports?

I saw an add where someone can turn their pc into a satelite ready tv for only 49.95. A one time fee for the software. Does this stuff really work?
 
It is a total ripoff. You would do better to buy a TV tuner for you're computer and hook you're cable or antenna to it. Then you can record the programs and watch it later zipping through the ads.
