Does sleeping on a slant really help?

I was very uncomfortable sleeping on the wedge so I have been using about 4 large pillows and the last two nights I actually slept much better, I was waking up at 3am and not be able to get back to sleep at all because of the reflux. I don't move around much and if I do I bump into another pillow. My hubby didn't like the wedge because I was too high in the air I guess.

Ive never tried lifting my bed or anything, i wanted to know how many of you benefit from sleeping on a slant?

When my mum was in hospital with serious reflux problems, they put her bed in a semi sitting position. I've used 2 pillows in bed, but that hasn't done much for me.

I don't have diagnosed acid reflux, but I do get the occassional symptoms.

I sleep with the head of my bed slightly raised and two pillows all the time. When my symptoms get really bad I had a third pillow.

For me it really seems to help, but everyone is different.

That won't work -- the whole bed neeRAB to be on a slant -- start off with the head of the bed three inches higher than the foot. No bend in the middle. For detailed info, go to google and type in "inclined bed therapy" -- it really works. I started three months ago and have had great results.

sleeping on a slant works -- but the whole bed neeRAB to be on a slant. Start with the head three inches above the foot -- gradually work up to six inches at the head... over 2-3 months. Cures reflux, snoring, varicose veins and many other problems. go to "inclined bed therapy" -- at your favorite search engine. You'll be surprised at the results. But, MRAB aren't interested because there's no "science" to back up the claims... only testimonials. It'll change your life.

I have been using a wedge pillow and I don't really see much of a difference??? But I would rather sleep on a slant for my peace of mind (less likely hood of the acid splashing up into my lungs that way!)

Its worth a try at least!

Good luck - feel better

inclined bed therapy didn't work for me, as a "light" sleeper I'd wake up when I slipped down a few inches, neither the wedge which was way uncomfortable and I'd wake up slipping off it, now 5 bulky pillows helped a lot and I stay in place, so far so good after a year! What works for some doesn't always work for everyone, you need to try several ways to get the comfort you can live with!

Be careful using regular pillows because they can move to where you are in a bad position making reflux worse. The hard wedge is best but I couldn't sleep comfortably on it and my husband didn't like my head being so high. LOL. Way back, I do think I found relief with the whole head of my bed lifted but no way I can do that with the new bed we have now. It was much more comfortable sleeping though!

How long did you try it? If your bed is raised three inches initially (to get started) and you sleep on cheap cotton sheets (not the slippery type), you won't slide... three inches isn't enough incline to make any difference as far as sliding is concerned. Also, you need to sleep sans clothing - the texture of your skin will hold you in place on cheap cotton sheets. It takes a minimum of two weeks for your body to get used to it - the results will be much better than sleeping on pillows. I'm currently at five inches (on the way to the optimal six inches) and I don't slip at all. Many of my physical problems have gone away due to this "inclined bed therapy" concept. There are many other benefits beside curing acid reflux. But, as the saying goes: "whatever works..."

I did try for 6 months and I had it up to 6", we sleep on flannel sheets even and I wear a long night shirt which actually sticks to flannel, but I still slip enough during the night to cause me problems from time to time. I just don't have any luck with that one!
