I have had 10 surgeries for various body parts. Only one has not been complicated with scar tissue. So my answer is yes.

Yes. The question is how much does your body create. Some people scar very badly both internally and externally, while others have minimal scaring.

Yes it does, but like Just said, everyone is different, some form alot of it, others just a little. Unfortunately, there is no way to know ahead of time. Though maybe I could have sort of known, as I have had other injuries that formed alot of scar, like on my face. I had a surfing accident in '01 and broke my nose and from my nose up across eyelid, just under my brow was all torn open. I had to have a bunch of stitches and boy did that form alot of scar tissue. I still have a hard lump under my skin there. I had some other smaller injuries over the years and always had alot of scarring, so maybe that could have meant I was more prone to alot more scarring inside my body also ,I dont know. Thing is, now my scar tissue in my spine has been causing me some problems and caused me alot of nerve pain. And I did everything possible to minimize the scarring. It's just the way it is for me.

What are some things one can do to try to minimize scar tissue forming after surgery?

Physical therapy, deep tissue massage, stretching...I think stretching can help alot while it's healing. Think of when you have a cut on your finger in place where you finger benRAB. The cut starts forming a scar, but when you bend/move your finger, the scar opens up and many times will break apart and scar tissue sometimes falls off. So stretching can cause this to happen where you had surgery on your spine. It might prevent a bunch of scar tissue from forming by breaking it apart. I also walked and moved around as much as possible. Someone else mentioned in another post that docs nowadays have something they might put in the spine around the surgical areas to help prevent scar tissue. But obviously, even if one does all these things, it doesnt guarantee one won't still have alot of scarring. I did all I could do, and I still have alot of scar tissue.
