I am a police officer in my country working as a youth focal person. we were tasked to work in partnership with the community. I managed to mobilize out of school youth aged between 18-35years, we formed a theatre group consisting of traditional dance(african - HII san) poetry and drama group. My role is to:
1. function as the contact person on youth issues in the area and liaise with youth office at head office
2. mobilize youth on issues related to organizational policy and outside, task them to form youth committees, anti crime clubs, hold regular meetings and form peer support groups.
3. identify youth challenges and communicate/ refer to principal youth officer (PYO) for appreciation
4. identify potential strategic partners/ stake holders and liaise with them in planning coordination and implementation
5. explore opportunities for youths both within the Botswana Police Service (BPS) to take advantage of available youth programs
6. Facilitate and implement youth policy on all aspects related to young people
7. explore opportunities for youth training and development and inculcate spirit of personal development
8. advocate and lobby for the recognition and inclusion of youth issues in the BPS policies and activities (for friendly legislations, policies and program)
9. represent youth in developmental programs/ activities. Advice, liaise and collaborate with PYO on matters pertaining to youth initiatives, program development and coordination within the BPS
10. Monitor and review the implementation of youth program within the station/ district and report progress to police headquaters.
