Does Media Have An Effect On Crimes?

I'm doing a sociology project for school and my topic is ''Does the media influence crimes?'' For example, when the school shooting happened, a few more happened after that. Do you think that all thoese shootings would of happened if the first one wasn't announced on the news?

I just want some opinions from people or if you know any good sites that has information on the subject, that would help too!

In my opinion, negative news reports do cause events to occur. I do not believe that if a school shooting happens, another one would occur quickly. However, if there was a bomb threat, there might be a few more threats. If that bomb threat was not publicized, then one of the other repeat threats may not have occurred.

Yes. Copycat crimes happen often.

But, these types of incidents will always be reported, even if they have no bearing on the area receiving the report.

Is there any legitimate reason to hear of a crime that happened thousands of miles away?

Sensational news sells. Fact of today's living.
