Does "Link Error" on my scanner mean that the computer (PCM) on my 1997 Ford Expedition

is bad? The check engine light on my 1997 Ford Expedition flashed several times before the engine suddenly died going down the road. There were no other problems previous to that moment. The vehicle would not start after that and I had to have it hauled to my home. Now the check engine light does not come on when I turn the key on, and the theft light blinks continuously. When I plug in my scanner to read the error codes, it only reads "Link Error". I'm not sure now if my problem is a bad Power-train Control Module, or if my key and theft system has shut my engine down and blocks me from reading the error codes. If anyone has any experience or knowledge of this problem I would greatly appreciate your input and advice.

The problem may be in your PATS system (Passive Anti-Theft), by
tracing the wires on the key side of your steering column about a
foot down you will find one of the fine wires has broke and it is making
the vehicle shut down the fuel pump. I have seen this a couple of
times with the symptoms that you describe. Good luck
