Like many Americans I have been laid off due to lack of work in the falling economy! Every job I apply for or interview for seems to hire someone fresh out of high school with no prior experience of any kind! Is this happening to anyone else? I have two Associates Degrees and I do live in a small town but it is getting to the point where it is ridiculous. I have a really good work ethic and I do not leave a job without giving 2 weeks notice. Just wondering if it is just me?In addition I don't have a criminal background, don't take drugs. My first Associate is as a Medical Secretary and the second is Business Management. I have applied for everything from vet offices, dental offices, lawyers offices, medical facilities, walmart, other retail offices, minimum wage paying jobs. I have not set a high pay rate either. I keep trying but the economy seems to just be getting worse with no end in site. Im not wallowing in self pity I am very hopeful that the right job will come around but I was just wondering if it was just me! Thanks for your answers guys.

This has not happened to me personally...but I do have a friend that it keeps happening to. Good Luck! I agree with you!

Brandy , I have a four year degree in business management , and I was turned down for a job at Mcdonalds .

I do not think this is just you. One explanation would be that companies are hiring folks right out of high school because they can train them however they want to do the job and pay them less. Unfortunately things usually go back to numbers and money. I would keep plugging away tryin to find a job and explore options that you would normally over look. With two Associate's degress you've got a lot of compentency and experience to offer.

I have an associates degree, am 29 years old. have a good work history. no crim. record, can pass a pee test.I applied at SOOO many places this summer and right now i am working at this "store" for $8.40 per hour.the economy is terrible.

You can leave it off the resume or try to explain why you would be happy in an entry level job.

Out of high school workers are great for the job because they usually have no plans and so...dead end job. Employers in a lot of places look for 'hopeless' people. The type who will work for the rest of their lives without budging from their rung.*(social ladder)
