Does it really matter how I turn off the bike?

WTF does TBW mean?

Throttle by wire means you no longer have throttle cables. It's done electronic

To add to this there is actually a small step controlled motor on the throttle body that opens it and closes it controlled by the impulse from the throttle that goes to the ECM(electronic control management) One of the advantages is that if say you go from a wide open throttle to a closed throttle with a cable you actually get and that leaves a long duration spray (big spray) of gas in intake with no air since the throttle flap is closed. With the TBW you get a controlled step down for the last few 100rps allowing a little air to reduce this mixtures richness and thus less emissions. You can not notice it in the ride but you get see it in the tack bumps on my car. Never drove it on a motorcycle but it will take a bike with a tach to see it I would guess. The TBW need was created by better control of fuel injection and the throttle body. With a carb you would not have this since air flow pulls the gas. From what I understand there is a double safety check always going on for this system to work and any failure will prevent it from working. Hence it will not fail by running away. A few years from now the questions are going to be tough to answer when some says my bike will not start. Most of us including me have not figured how to turn it off but we are learning.

PEOPLES,,,It has nothing to do with the electrical or the performance of the bike. It is all about safety. you see a lot of times on the news you here about cars driving into a store, or a Dunkin Doughnuts? literally.. ok trust me I do not do this sometimes and I ride one handed, so I am not trying to make anyone look bad. I have been in safety training courses here in New Hampshire and they say the proper way to shut of a bike for safety and to keep control is to hit the kill switch 1st. the reason is that if your hand slips of the clutch you still have a hand on the bars for the front brake.

I actually watched a guy at a local Harley dealer buy a Brand new Screaming Eagle. he was sitting on the bike outside after he just bought it with it running and in gear. he went to shut it of at the key not the kill switch, and yes.. he let the clutch out at the same time. away the bike went across the parking lot with him trying to hang on and get control. into the fence he went. sad to watch. he was ok but the bike went into the shop to be repaired. never even left the parking lot.

Not sure if you are being negative or paying for storage space, but in my opinion this is a good string of posts. There is a lot of people out there who probably never took a safety class or 2nd owners with out a manual who do not know Harley and safety courses say use handlebar switch. I know everone with a new Harley has read manual. Of course then it up to you to remember to kill lights and lock bike. Now there are 118 post and 5587+ views at this time.
