Hi there

Me and my partner are looking for a new place to live. Where we live at the moment has a garage but is very expensive.

We have been looking into moving to a smaller, less expensive flat (but this means the chances of finding a flat with a garage are slim)

The hubby is saying that he NEEDS a garage because the bike could be robbed with a chain.. etc. But this is making our search V. difficult.

Does anyone know at all of any way I can asure his bike is safe witout having a garage?

Thanks :)

Get the garage it will be better. A sercure place is a must bikes can stolen quickly. Also it is better keep stuff inside whaen not in use keeps looking better save you money

Or you could get a lion. Leave it chained up near the bike. It won't get stolen. A garage might be more practical though...

Most bikes have a lock on the forks that can be lcoked and makes it harder for someone to say roll it into a pickup and take off. He could also get lojack so the bike could get tracekd if stolen, you could also put a chain on the tire to keep the tire from rolling. Odds are as long as its a cruiser or heavier bike with a frok lock someone can't roll it and can't pick it up and put it in a truck. That being said I still wouldn't want my bike sitting in an apartment parking lot or on the street all the time.

Could he roll it into the house and leave it in the foyer or something?

Another option would be renting a storage space close to home, that can be done very cheaply, then he could drive or walk to the storage place take his bike out and ride and then put it back, I know its kind of a hassle, but I guess that would only work if used it on the weekends and not everyday as a commuter bike

He's right: Either move somewhere with a ridiculously low crime rate (like where I live!), or keep your bike in the house or in a garage.

Items of opportunity have a tendency of disappearing. I once had an apartment no garage attached and did not even think that my bike would get taken, it took about 3 months till it did.
I now have a collectible car and when I park it in my carport I feel like I was at a christmas party and placed a piece of sees candy on the table and left it unguarded and truly expected it to be there when I got back.

A garage is the best place to put the bike to stop it getting stolen.

We are moving house and the new house doesn't have a garage and am leaving the bike outside on a driveway with a cover, two disc locks a chain and a ground anchor and each night praying it will still be around in the morning.

It's very important to have a secure location for the motorcycle and a garage is ideal. Another alternative is to rent a self-storage space. A friend of mine just walks a couple of blocks up the street whenever he wants to ride. Heck, we even kept a motorcycle in our empty living room for a month because the garage door was broken.

You do what you got to do to protect your investment.
