Hanging typically prevents creases. Other reasons to hang are to compare outfits that might go together, versus having to pull them out of the drawer, unfold them, decide if they match, then fold them again and put them back. Silly, but true.
Also, some material when folded can ruin an outfit by causing permanent wrinkles.
