I like just about everything about Apple's iPhone OS except one thing - you can only install software that has been approved by Apple and is sold through the iTunes App store. If Apple doesn't approve your favorite app (like Flash for instance), you're out of luck. Also, Apple won't approve apps that have scripting capabilities - no spreadsheet macros!
Does Google or Microsoft have the same kind of control over their phones? Can I install anything I want on Android or Windows Mobile?

No, the only reason iPhones don't have flash is Apple - they refuse to let Adobe release a flash player.
