Giants are good bikes and is a very reputable brand... but, to the guy who swears he knows it all, they ARE NOT the world's biggest bike manufacturer. That said, they are a very large producer and make a quality product for whichever cycling discipline you prefer. You can buy a Giant and know it will be solid but you could also find better bikes out there in that price range.
Bottom line, if you like the bike go ahead and get it. It's a solid brand and wont be a POS but if you're looking to get the most for your $$, shop around some more.

Bottom line as far as this question goes, Giant is exactly on par with a Cannondale or Trek or Specialized or Gary Fisher, etc in the sub $1000 price range....
