Does exercising your toe prevent bunions from worsening?

So, I've had these bumps on the side of my foot for a while now, and I noticed a while back that my big toe bends inward slightly. I didn't really pay any attention to them until my dad noticed them. I asked, and he and my mom said that my grandmother had huge bunions and she had to get surgery for them. Frankly, I don't want to result to surgery. I don't have any pain yet, but my mom said I will if it gets worse. So my question is, will exercising the toes prevent them from worsening? What else can I do to prevent them from worsening?
I don't want to go as far as removing them (surgery) as they aren't a nuisance to me right now. However, I don't wish for them to become a nuisance, therefore I'm looking for ways to prevent the bunion from worsening.

It does sound as if you are getting bunions and they are hereditary. No exercise will help but wearing shoes that are wider at the toe line will help.

The only way to get rid of bunions is by having surgery. There are products/protective shoes that help protect your bunions and prevent it from getting worse, holding off the need for surgery until a later time. If you're not having pain, I wouldn't worry about them.
