does email cost money for tmobile phones?

I have the samsung highlight without internet, but i see it has email everytime i go to the messaging section and i always wanna set it up but im worried its gonna cost money.. so i was wondering if email cost the same as sending a text messagge... so do standard text messaging rates apply for email????
