Does education really need to be compulsory(required for everyone)?

Sure you can say parents are "unfit to have the children educated properly".*

But seeing how bad our school's are becoming, does that really benefit most?
And to those who say there's alternatives, the vast majority are attending government schools.
Just curious

Education was first mandated by the Romans, the whole point was suppress poverty and crime, general suffering. Requiring education up to high school is crucial in that way, because if we were let loose with little or no knowledge, we'd digress as a species, I'm pretty sure.

Although the school system isn't necessarily perfect, it's still a lot better than most other methods- and parents left to their own devices are still likely to do a worse job.

Remember that a lot of households simply don't value education and aren't likely to be too concerned with sending their child to school. Many would probably rather they were out working as soon as possible, even though their lack of education will limit their opportunities in the long run.

The point of compulsory education is to ensure everyone has a decent groundwork and grasp of the basics before they decide whether or not to take it further.

Yes. There has to be some standards in education, without it being compulsory nobody would be in sync. And, people are stupid, 99% of parents should not be educating there kids in the home. People need to know how to read higher than a 2nd grade level. People need to be able to do math. We need this as a county to function.

Education is the real civilization and this is necessary part in any one life to get organized and disciplined in life.It is also necessary to avoid crimes and having a good educated mind.
