Does eating a lot sometimes help lose weight?

For a few years I have been restricting my eating here and there as well as binging at some points. My patterns have fluctuated for sure, as well as my weight. Recently I have been trying to restore my normal eating patterns that I forgot a few years ago. I let myself eat whenever I am hungry. I'm eating way, way more than normal. But I'm losing weight from what I can tell. Everything fits better, my stomach looks flat, and I feel mentally well. Are these signs that I needed to eat more to begin with? Or is this just good luck for now, and it will catch up with me?
