Does doing this in movies imply sex?

Alright I know I may sound a little naive here.

In lots of movies and such, there's sometimes a scene where the main couple of the movie kiss on a bed and then you just see them lay down while kissing and then the camera tilts off and fades to black, where it then usually skips to morning.

Does this action in movies basically symbolise that they're going to have sex?

By the way, in case it makes a difference, the movie I'm referencing is a modern Japanese film. It is a deep, deep romance. The female is VERY sweet, kind, gentle and traditional (in terms of Kimonos etc) although I don't think the fact that it's Japanese or that she's traditional makes too much of a difference, so just treat it as if it were a Western film.

It's just... the character of the girl is so sweet and loving that implying sex using that method just didn't seem to fit :S

So what do you think? Can it mean just a romantic moment rather than sex?
EDIT - When I say traditional, the film setting is modern day. Its not set back in the past. The female just... wears a kimono because she's part of an important family
