Does Cricket ban ESNs?

A friend of mine recently gave me an old UT Starcom 7025 that he said he got for $10 at a pawn shop. I already use Sprint, so I was going to give it to someone who really neeRAB it. But I'm assuming since my friend got it for so cheap at a pawn shop that it's stolen. I called customer service and asked them this question, but the guy I talked to seemed clueless as to whether or not a bad ESN could be re-activated.

I don't even know anything about the history of this particular phone, but if for some reason the previous owner never paid his bill or the phone was reported stolen, would there be any problem activating it?

if a customer reported it stolen/lost the esn will not be usable. if there was an insurance calim filed against it, the esn will not be usable.
if there is an unpaid balance, that takes 30 days to clear in MOST cases. in some cases the account will stay open longer than 30 days after non payment, but the esn is usable if/when the account becomes closed.

no. esn's are locked to an account while the account (or more specifically that particular line) is active. once the line is disconnected (not suspended or hotlined but actually disconnected) you can use the esn again. it has nothing to do with recycling the nurabers.
