Does "chiu chiu" mean "crickets" in English (from Li-Young Lee's poem "Persimmons")?

In context of the poem:

I teach her Chinese.
Crickets: chiu chiu. Dew: I've forgotten.
Naked: I've forgotten.
Ni, wo: you and me

I know that Ni means you and Wo means I, so "you and me" is "Ni, wo" translated (from a google search). I just can't find anything that says "chiu chiu" means "crickets." I was thinking he was perhaps just imitating the sounds... not that it matters too much (I'm just curious).
