...to a old car honda accord lx? 1997. if i change the coolant fluid, im afraid it might not handle the new stuff? what about the transmission fluid? 130,000 miles thanks?

Changing the coolant will not effect idle speed.
Changing coolant should not harm the cooling system as long as you use what is recommended by the manufacuturer. However, if the sustem has not been flushed for a long time and is dirty, then new fluid could cause deposits to break free and lodge somewhere causing a clog. If you know or think it has been a long time since it was flushed ( more than three years) then I would recomend taking the car to a shop to have it professionally flushed and refilled.
Change the transmission fluid and filter as often as recommended. This is usually a pro job because on most cars the oil pan has to be removed.

Your coolant can be changed. Don't do the transmission fluid though if it hasn't been done already at scheduled intervals. You're just asking for trouble if you do.
