Does Army 31B (Military Police) training greatly assist with civilian police training?

I have heard about MPs having to be "re-programmed" by civilian law enforcement agencies. Is it better to wait and learn police skills in the civilian academy or does MP training help a lot? I understand that just being in the Army will give me a leg up when applying for a civilian police agency.

I have an Associate's degree in criminal justice. However, I am also a programmer and would easily succeed at 25B (IT). Should I take the MP training or the computer training? Either way I am applying for law enforcement after I am discharged.

Also, I am aware an MP's duties are not the same as the civilian police and that I will be deployed and have to do combat patrols as an MP.

All advice is appreciated.
