does anything work as good as accutane?

I'd like to try it but I've had trouble finding someone to put me on it. Also I'm having surgery within the next several months and I'm scared that the accutane will cause me to scar. does anything work as good as accutane and do you think accutane would make me scar from surgery? please help. I'm so sad that I can barely look in the mirror and I hate when people look me in the face--I am so erabarrassed by my acne.
 
I am 21 and had acne since around age 14. I was on accutane in my early years and although it worked wonders, I couldn't stand having extremely dry lips and eyes. After that I tried creams, scrubs, everything you can imagine. None of which were worthy of writing home about. Earlier this year I asked my doctor about being put on birth control for acne. It's only been up hill since then. I now get maybe 2 zits a month, if that. I haven't had any negative side effects that I've noticed. Unfortunately, I have heard that the kind of birth control I am on (Diane-35) was banned in the United states.

I guess it would depend on the severity of you acne. Accutane will only be prescribed to you if it is quite servere...purely because of the possible side effects. Not sure if you've tried all the possible anti-biotics availible for it, but they're a good start for mild/moderate acne such as tetracycline/flucloxacillin....theres loaRAB! If you consider it to be servere then book an appontment with a derm and someone SHOULD explain the risks and prescribe it to you.

The Diane-35 started to work the first month I started taking it. It didn't work as well as it does now, I have been virtually acne free for 4 months now, so 2 months after I started taking it I had 1-2 pimples a month. The first month, I only broke out around the time I wasn't taking the pill for 7 days. Therefore, it started to work relatively fast! By the way I had moderate acne. Had it on my back, shoulders, chest and face. It has cleared up everything except my back, but it has gotten a lot better and continues to.

i got pregnant 2 years ago, never had acne before or after.
but during pregnancy was horrible.
the ONLY thing that worked for me was proactive.
the refining mask is seriously AMAZING.
i thought it might just be, a tv hoax.
but seriously the best purchase i have ever made ! :)
 
Accutane is probably the best thing on the market for cystic acne however it does have it's drawbacks...you should never take it when you have surgery as it so harsh on your system as it is. What is the reason other than your upcoming surgery will doctors not put you on Accutane?
