does anyone see anything wrong with this?

the other day i was at the security line at the airport talking to this young girl in front of me. she has cancer and was on her way to see her doctor. she is on a bunch of medication. she politely asked the security if they could just manually check her pills and food (she has a lot of food allergies so needs to bring her own food) instead of running it through the x-ray machine. her doctor told her not to scan her food or medications through the x-ray machine at the airport. tsa insisted on scanning her food and gave ger a hard time with her medications having her open up every bottle. the tsa agent was also very nasty saying "i scan my food every day through the x-ray machine." the girl was sick. she looked so weak and frail. i felt so bad for her bc she was by herself. she told the tsa agent that she would not be able to eat the foods if they were scanned and the tsa agent proudly and loudly made no exceptions declaring she is the manager. it was almost as if she was out to get someone. i don't know if the tsa agent knew she had cancer, but all the poor girl had was a sealed unopened salad from the supermarket with the receipt in the bag. i don't think anyone would have objected to the girl not having her salad scanned. this makes me never want to fly again. i am thinking about writing a letter to a newspaper.
also, it does not make sense to me that if x-ray machines can damage medicine that they can not damage food items??
