Does anyone remember...

... a movie in the early 1980s (?), somewhat in the same vein as "A Christmas Story" where I remember some scenes where the wives keep meeting or going to the cinema, trying to win a big turkey roasting dish, over and over, but they never have the full set of dishes for them to win; some sort of Christmas Club or contest or some such.

I've been trying to remember more about this movie for years now...

I remember some more:

All the wives had "Christmas Club" savings accounts at the local bank, and with every deposit (or some such) they got a new dish in a set, but the gravy server or turkey dish or something was never available, and in a scene in the local theatre, all the wives are complaining that this dish is not available, etc etc

That was indeed a scene in Christmas Story. You sure its not one and the same.

(They don't get the promised piece so they all throw them at the MC)

On the IMDB forum, I got an answer -

Jean Shepherd's "Phantom of the Open Hearth"

-

Apparently, he did a whole series of radio and TV shows about his childhood alter-ego, Ralph, and his father "the Old Man", etc.

I have found that SCHMIDCO has out-of-print copies available for sale.

The originals are unlikely to ever be broadcast again, due to music copyright licensing issues, sigh.
