I read it when I was about 10-13 (about 5 years go). It is written for this age group as well.
I can only vaguely remember certain details about it.
There is a young girl about 10 or 11 who goes to school and has two close friends. Then a new girl comes to school who is kind of weird. The new girl claims gnomes live in her backyard. The main character starts hanging out with the "gnome girl" and leaves her two friends behind. One day when the main character goes over to the "gnome-girl's" house she sees "gnome girl" holding a tiny, sick woman (who the reader later finds out is the "gnome girls" mother). And that's all I remember.
God I can not find this book but if anyone could help me out I would appreciate it so much.
