I'm looking for a book about a boy who thought he was the last person alive. Disease wiped out people over a certain age. He receives a message from someone and discovers they are already dead - suicide. He meets up with a girl and they live in abandoned houses. The cover was a sky with lots of different coloured doors on it. Published sometime before 2003. Any help would be very much appreciated.
