I read a book many years ago - in fifth grade, actually - and I've been trying to find it again. I'll give as much detail as I can, but my memory is a wee bit misty.
There were two children (pre-teen to young teen at the maximum of ages), brother and sister. A witch of some kind took the sister away, and the brother was sent on a journey to save her.
He had to speak to a being of fire for aid, and eventually went to a man (I think he was human, though I could be wrong...), who gave him a needle to fight the witch with.
In the end the boy was able to defeat the witch and rescue his sister.
Sadly, I have little recognition beyond that. Hopefully one of you may have an inkling as to the title and author of this book.
