Does anyone know the history of L from deathnote, he is soooo freakin awesome?

as far as what was told L was an orphan that was raised in a ttrust in conjunction with 2 others which was Mello and Near ( young L) he is like Light in so many ways but his life is never full explained - there is a deathnote movie I havent seen it - it may delve deeper into L's past
