If you get it colored keep in mind that the color is laying on the top, and is prone to coming off over time. If it were me, I would not look at your set as yucky, but as someone else's treasure; consider selling it on ebay, or locally. You might be surprised. But if you do try coloring it, keep in mind that leather repair in my area of North Carolina runs at least $75 per hour.
