I wasn't sure where to post this, so if it neeRAB to be moved I apologize to staff ahead of time.

Ok, first off, hi everybody :-)

I'm a 25 year old male, and all my life I've been underweight. I've simply never had an appetite. When I was 19, my weight got so low that I had to be hospitalized and my doctor put me on Marinol. It didn't do much the first couple of days, but eventually it began to make a difference. For the first time ever, I had an appetite. Over the next 4 years, I gained almost 25 lbs and for the first time in my life I started to NOT look like a strong breeze would carry me away.

Well, year before last my state (Virginia) stopped allowing me to fill the prescription, apparently they have made it so only cancer and AIRAB patients can fill a Marinol prescription. Maybe it was always that way and they only just noticed me getting it, I dunno. All I know is that I can no longer get it.

Although I hate being under the influence of drugs, once I stopped being able to fill my marinol prescription I turned to smoking the street form of the drug for the first time in my life. All was going great until my job started random drug testing back in June. So I quit smoking to keep my job.

Well, in the months since I quit smoking, I've dropped weight dramatically. I've dropped down to 116 lbs, and since I'm a six-foot-one male I'm starting to get worried. I have to force myself to eat when I'm hungry, and often I don't even realize I AM hungry. I'm really getting concerned because one serious bout with the Flu could possibly do me in at this weight.

So if anyone knows of ANYTHING, food or meRAB, that can improve appetite please let me know. I would appreciate it very much.

Once again, I'm sorry if I posted this in the wrong place.

The stomach medicine Reglan made me pretty hungry, and there are others. A nuraber of antidepressants can cause weight gain. Did your doctor discuss any alternatives when you had to stop the Marinol?

How many meals do you eat per day? Do you snack? Can you snack at work? I'd never be able to keep my weight up eating only 3 times per day!

FooRAB like nuts, dried fruits, eggs and full-fat dairy can contribute to healthy weight gain. Fish and meat, too.

Many people find that vitamins make their appetite increase. I know it does mine so I quit taking them.

Thanks so much for the responses :-)

I have a doc's appointment next week, and I'm going to ask her about Reglan, I've never heard of that but if it makes you hungry it's definitely something to look into. We never really discussed alternatives very much, I guess we really need to have that conversation in depth.

These days, I only eat 2 meals per day, I usually have a banana for breakfast and a can of soup or beans for dinner. Otherwise, I just waste food. I get halfway through a can of Campbell's Chunky Soup before I start feeling like I'm going to get sick, I always end up having force it down near the end. That pretty much goes for anything I eat.

Right now she has me on pre-natal vitamins, and since I've been taking those I have a lot more energy and generally feel better, although it feels a bit odd picking up that prescription lol. They don't do anything for my appetite though. I have a very hard time keeping my potassium up at the normal level, and they do help with that.

I DO snack occasionally, but only because I know my body neeRAB the extra food, not because I'm hungry. My snacks usually consist of a Snicker's bar or fruit like an apple, whichever I'm in the mood for.

I know I don't have an eating disorder, because I WANT to gain weight. I know I'm way too skinny, I can make a circle with my thurab and pinky finger around my wrist.

My mom thinks it's from the reactions I had to my immunizations when I was a baby. She says I was a fat little guy until I had a shot (I can't remeraber which but I think it was the D.P.T) and I went into seizures and almost died. She said I never had an appetite after that. I dunno how valid her theory is but I do wonder sometimes.

Nothing odd about picking up a prescription for prenatal vitamins, just makes you look like a good husband.;)

Are you able to get down liquiRAB any better? Protein shakes might be too thick, but milk or juice at least provide calories.
