Does anyone know of a book like this?

The book is about a man, possibly a knight, who appears in the bedroom of a young woman as some sort of spirit. He visits her frequently and they fall in love. Eventually she tries to save him and discover what happened to him.
I know this is vague, but I really can't remember and I really want to re-read it. I can't find it either. Any thoughts on what book I'm talking about?
