Does anyone know how to get a story published?

I've already written a story, and I'm wondering is there a way to give it to a publisher to put it into a book. what will i do? also does anyone know how to get an agent and what it costs? and what does it cost to get a story into book form? is there also any good companies that might want to take a look at my book? it's fiction and i just don't know how to get it published. if you are an author, or knows any companies to go to, can you please help me?
