Does anyone know how to design a plastic shaft? specifically, a polymer shaft?

Does anyone know or can provide help with books or links to start the design of a polymer shaft from scratch?

Just have it rapid prototyped; design it using a modeling software and then either find someone with a 3-D printer (generally a university), or send it to a RP manufacturer online
