I was thinking of buying a ford focus or vw golf, the problem is people have told me if you want a low maintenance car then buy a ford and if you buy a golf you can spend 2,500 to 3000 pounds on the car because then you are more likely to have problems with the car, and if you take the golf to a normal mechanic then they will charge you an arm and a leg for the car parts, plus when i buy the car i will be broke so can someone give me an idea of what car to go for?

Don't go for this car, I've talked to mechanics and they've all said the samething: "I fix TONS of Ford's especially the Escort and Focus...and thats b/c they're brand new cars." Yes, they're cute but if you want to put alot of money and time into your car than go for this car...but this car is horrible!!!

Go for a trusted company and basically not an American car:
Honda
Toyota

Ok, so here is what i know. The Volkswagen Golf is considered a luxury vehicle so it will cost you more for parts, to get it serviced etc. The Ford Focus is not, but one thing i know about the Focus is that it goes through brake pads faster than usual.

Are these the only two cars you have considered? Because i have a Honda Civic, and it is FREAKING FANTASTIC. It is so nice to drive, and being a Honda is is VERY reliable.

But really, buying a car is an emotive choice, you should end up buying the car you love, even if it does cost a bit more to run.
