So, in my experience, I am constantly confronted with people who are like "oh, I wrote my novel, but it was like a million gazillion gagillion pages long, I had to cut it again and again and edit the life out of it" or even worse "You haven't edited until you've cut down your book by a quarter! A half is even better!".
You always hear about big-name published authors who say how hard it was to take their five hundred thousand word manuscripts and crunch them into a mere two hundred thousand... I met one woman who informed me her manuscript was a minimum of-- I kid you not-- 300,000 words!!
Am I the only person who can't write ENOUGH?
What can I say. Words are not spilling out of my soul. I do not teem with coherent plot and exaggerated character. My veins are not filled with ink.
I sit here, and I plot out a novel, and I fear that I can even make it to reasonable quota of words, let alone so many I am cutting it DOWN! If anything, I will need to go back and ADD words! I add subplot constantly just to keep enough to momentum that I will take a novel-length amount of time to get where I'm going! My last novel was barely 85,000 words... cutting it would have reduced it almost to a novella.
So I only ask: am I alone in this? Are you all-- are all the true writers out there just so full of story and plotline that they just write and write until the cows come home? Am I merely a broken typewriter?
BQ: What is your current project?
BQ 2: Nevermind.
