Does anyone have information about college?

I recently graduated high school, and am looking into going to college. However, I don't know one detail about college, let alone how to find out about one. I have been online searching for hours. You have to go to college to get your General Education again, which is two years of just regular classes like high school, right? And then once you finish that, you get a degree? Should I go to a career college? If any of you have information, experience, or advice, please let me know. Links to websites with information would also help greatly. Thank you.
