Does anyone else think that it is stupid that we honor sports over brains?

Why do we honor sporting stars so much, and encourage our kids to do so much sports (which in itself is not a bad thing), but then don't care about any scientists, their discoveries, or any other intellectual ventures, and don't encourage our kids to achieve as much at school as we do at sports? We reward people so much for doing great at sporting events, but don't even mention when they eve well in a certain area at school?

They always mention the boy that scored the winning goal at the school assemblies, yet don't bother to mention the boy that just won the science award, or won an award for their short story in english.

A perfect example of what I am talking about is today, all everyone has talked about is the FIFA world cup for 2022, how Australia lost and Quatar won. It takes over the entire day's news, and then at the very end of the six o'clock news, they squeeze in a 1 minute clip about the discovery of the microbe that feeds of arsen.

What I am asking is, why does society place such importance on ports, and honor and regard it so highly, and intelligence, and ventures in learning, academic achievements, etc are never mentioned, and have little importance placed on them? A sporting star goes to a school and plays soccer with kids for 5 minutes takes over the news, yet a scientist who inspires many kids to achieve as well as they can in science is left unnoticed? Sporting coaches are so highly regarded by children, yet teachers are mocked and treated awfully by their students?

By the way, I am only 15 and even I can see how stupid this is, I am just wondering how many other people seem to have noticed this as well. I want to be a High School English teacher when i am older, but i wish to be respected more than this when i reach that point in my life. I at least want to be respected as much as I respect my english teacher, yet sadly, I am afraid this will probably never happen.
