Does anybody know how to pull media files?

I recorded somethings using my Samsung mini DVD Recorder, when I go to open them or import them into windows movie maker. It shows it not being there and when I try to change it to all files and import it that way it gives me an error message (the file is not supported file type, and it cannot be imported into Windows Movie Maker). Does anyone know how I can get these clips off so I can create a video.
I can see the video on the disc and play it through window media player but I can't seem to do it in WMM. Need help ASAP
