Does Anybody else Drive a Dodge Intrepid?

I bought mine 2 days ado and LOVE LOVE it!!! I was just told by someone that this car has trouble with oil sludge buildup???? I had mine checked and it was all good....no build up....mine is a 2002 ES sadan.

I have my second Intrepid, awesome cars!! I have an 04 SXT with the 3.5 engine. What your freind is telling you is that the Intrepids with the 2.7 V-6 engines did have a problem with making the oil sludge faster because the PVC was routed back into the oil pan, you have to change your oil every 3000 miles or it will sludge. Now if you have the 3.2 or 3.5 engine you have nothing to worry about. Also the 2.7's are famous for all their timing chains breaking. They have to be changed every 100K miles of they will break, this is a fact! Check which engine you have and take care of her. My first Intrepeid I got 300K miles out of that car. Have fun with her. I love my newer Intrepid.

I own a 3.3 and have worked on several of those types of vehicles and yes sludge can build up on the 2.7 so what I'd recommend to flush out the oil system on it with STP oil flush about once a year that will help it quite a bit.
More then likely the reason why there's no sludge build up on it now is bec the previous owner has flushed the oil before but it not really hurt to be sure that's it truly clean to flush it the next oil change just in case. Some oil change shops offer the flush for about 10 bucks more or so.
What I recommend is over time try to find a fair priced reliable mechanic or have a friend that is handy with vehicles go over all the comps grounds and the different wiring going to comps bec Dodges use some thin or poor quality of wiring and most problems are either the grounds or wires that are internally corroded or rotted out inside.
Also I'd call up the dealership and find out if any factory recalls exist for that vehicle or service bulletins or comp program flash updates especially for the transmission comp=TCM.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way I really like my older Intrepid it's a pretty good car all in all but then I've done tons of different things to it and I keep it well maintained too.
Personally I not hesitate to buy another one bec I know what to look for on these cars and I do love driving them.

i own a intrepid and i do believe who ever told you it has sludge build-up didn't change their oil when suppose to.. take care of your car.. it will love you long time
