Does a Pull-Back Car have a double action?(Tension/Compression)?

I have a HUGE physics test tomorrow, and i need to find out how a toy works. I chose a pull-back car, which is kinda like a Wind-Up toy, and i need to know if it has a double action force. Is it a Push, Pull or Double Action? I also need to know what are reference points.
