Does a iTunes restore reset the iPhone's network?

Hi, so I'm gonna buy my friend's old iPhone from her but she is on Optus and I am on Virgin Mobile so I was wondering, if I was to plug the iPhone into my computer and do a restore would it clear the fact that it's an Optus phone or not? As far as I know it was bought outright but I'm not sure whether it was bought from Optus or not.

Do I HAVE to take it to an Optus store to unlock it or can I do it for free from home?

Thanks.

short answer: no

you need the phone unlocked. resetting iTunes just wipes the music off iTunes. When you plug the iPhone in for the first time it will say that this phone is registered with someone else and you will have to wipe it. you would have to go to the store- Virgin should be able to unlock it though.

So: no.

Have fun with the iPhone though. :-)
