does a health care professional have the right to know the clients medical history?

i understand enough about the HIPPA law to know the clients rights. but here's my situation..

over 6 months ago i received a client through my employer for home health care. i was unaware of the client having a contagious disease that is exposed through contact. the only medical information i received about the client dealt with her current situation of an aneurysm. i was NEVER informed of this disease from my place of work until medical papers revealed it to the staff in the home.

im very upset with this new information and feel betrayed. is there a law that protects health care professionals? I feel as though i had the right to know before i entered her home. :(((((
