ok so i found a a tank in my attic. Its in good shape. I dont have any type of pump or filter or any of that. all i have is a tank. Cant i just put water in the tank with gravel and a plant. and then put the goldfish in? It is a 10 gallon tank, im on a low budget and its too expensive too buy all that. other than the tank i have a half gallon bowl! help me!

Imagine you don't flush the toilet and it eventually starts to roll down the stairs and into the kitchen, which is what would happen.

That's the same as a tank without a filter and goldfish do crap a lot.

Guess you will have to save up and all the goldfish experts on here are going to tell you 10 gallon isn't big enough anyway.

yes u need a filter u can buy a filter and heater 4 very little maybe 40 blips u dont need a pump , but no gold fish can live in that and throw the bowl out its no good get the heater and get a betta (siamese fighter) and say 5neon tetras they're lovely fish

also look up how 2 cycle the water first its the most important thing in ur tank

Its simple. Tanks are a much healthier environment for fish if you have a filter. I had a really good one but I don't remember what brand it is so I cant recommend it. lol sorreh :/

Hi,
no you need a filter at least as the water will go stagnent and the fishes poo will make the tank dirty. Some filters can suck air in so then air is put into the tank.

But at least you need a filter. You could always buy an undergravel filter these work well as long as the tank hasn't got to many fish in.

note - im only a beginner at fishies it was like only a few weeks that marc up there answered my fishie problems :)

the tank needs a filter - for sure, they cost about 20 quid for a 10 gallon one, prob more for a good one. but a heater would expand yours options of the wcmm, which to be honest are boring as :( still nice to watch but if you buy a heater nicer fish can be kept - about 20 quid as well for 10 g heater, then instead of coldies you could have trops :) theyre cooler! and just as easy to keep
