Does a Duck have to have a mate in order for the eggs to be fertile?

I have a duck that is laying on 10 eggs. I do not think anything of it until a co-worker told
me that a duck does not have to mate to have fertile eggs. I need to know what to expect. I know this seems like a stupid question
