I have a inaccuracy on my credit report. There is a Verizon Penn account posted as charged off. That is impossible considering I have never had any verizon account. I'm a college student and I live with my father. So I disputed the account with the Credit Bureaus but Verizon didnt remove it.When I contacted them they said they would not investigate my claim without me first filling a police report and sending them various documentation which included a notarized letter from my father as well as one from his land lord, a letter from my school, a copy of my ID, a copy of my social security card, and a letter from the social security office stating that my social number was my number because it was coming up for multiple people. Basically they were giving me the run around.
Well I atempted to comply. I went to the police station and waiting for over an hour to file a report only to be told that I cant file a report without something from Verizon. Well I called Verizon to tell them what I was told and they basically told me the police officer was lying and to go try again. I was so confused. I asked them could they at least send me a bill something to actually show these services and they told me no. It was against their policy's. I was stuck.
Well following the advice of someone I sent Verizon the letter asking if they could send me a copy of a contract or an agreement in which I had authorized this service and agreed to pay this utility, I requested that they faxed it to me. Later that day I received a phone call from Verizon. When I answered the guy stated that they could not do so and would not because that's against "their policy" He also made it a point to state that they do not communicate via fax, phone only. I hung up. I than sent them another fax asking could they send me a fax stating that it was against their policy to send me the documentation that I had requested and for them to answer to me via fax. Also I asked them to fax me what they had told me they needed me to do before they would investigate. I have yet to hear anything from them. I was wondering what my next step should be. Its imperative that I get this removed. I do not want to be penalized for something that I did not due.
So I guess I have two question
1) does a creditor have to respond to my request for verification or does the regulation established by the FACTA not apply to them since they are not collectors.
2) How should I proceed in getting this removed from my credit report.
