When buying a used car does a car dealership have to provide you with a carfax print out or do they have to tell you if the cars been in a accident before? I bought a car a year ago and then started having some issues when the car went to the shop all shorts of bolts and screws were loose the truck was about to fall apart and they said that it had been in a front end collision at some point

additional info: the vehicle is a 2007 Chevy Tahoe LT

Only if they know about it.

And they are NOT required to know about it. They are not required to do a Carfax, autocheck, or anything else.

You can ask them to do one, but they have no obligation to do so.

I've bought and sold plenty of cars without looking up the history. I simply don't care. If the buyer wants to look it up, they should do so BEFORE they buy the car.

Which is what you should have done.

No they do not. Some of them will voluntarily furnish a carfax report, but it is not required. A carfax report does not show everything either. a carfax report will only show insurance claims. If someone paid out of pocket to have the repairs done, it will never show up on a report. Just because the carfax report is clean does not mean the car has not been in a collision.
