does a canon flash fit a panasonic lumix g1 hot shoe?

hiya guys ive searched the web but cant find a convincing answer. i have a panasonic lumix g1 would the canon 430ex ii flash fit the panasonics hot shoe?
the guy in the shop showed me how to work the manual settings which is fine, but when i press the shutter to take a photo will the flash - flash in manual mode. will they talk to one another sufficiently enough to flash.
 
Most likely not. It will go in the shoe because they're standard size. But, getting camera and flash to "talk" will be something else. It may fire but you'll no doubt notice that the pin placement on the flash is different than on your camera because flash is made specifically for a particular camera brand.
 
If it works at all, you would have to use manual settings. Besides using manually set shutter speed and aperture in the camera, you probably have to tell the flash to operate in manual mode instead of TTL mode.
