In the State of Virginia, with the exception of alcohol, tobacco, and other government regulated goods/services, does a business have the right to refuse sale to anyone based on age?? For example, I go to a grocery store to buy apple juice, and the cashier asks me for ID, after looking at my ID, the cashier refuses sale to me because I am under the age of 21. Does this violate my civil rights or is the business allowed to do this? What kind of violation is this?
P.S: I understand the term," A private business has the right to refuse services for any reason." But I also know it is against the law to refuse sale based on race. But is it against the law to discriminate based on age? I know about the alcohol and other regulations, but I am talking about non-regulated goods. Please give me a specific code if you can or some sort of evidence.
