does a 2002 ducati 900ss fairings fit on a 1997?

I'm looking into 1997 ducati but I don't like that the motor and chassis are exposed, I think I'll still go for the bike if 2002 fairings of the same bike would fit. Does any one know if they would?
 
No.

The Ducati's with fairings will swap from 97-99 but not other years. If you're looking at a naked bike, not even the 97 fairings will fit it. The ones with fairings are for the liquid cooled 4 valve engine, and the naked bikes feature an air cooled 2 valve engine. The naked bikes share only a few common components of the fairing bikes, and the frames and basic geometry are different.

You could make it fit by fabricating your own mount brackets and reshaping around the handlebars, but that would be about as easy as trying to mount GSXR fairings on it. It can be done, but it'll be a lot of work and expense.
